Sport England to back the Game Changers

It’s been announced that The Game Changers, the award-winning podcast that celebrates trailblazing women in sport, is to receive Sport England National Lottery funding throughout 2023.

The extended grant enables the producers, Fearless Women, to broaden the reach of the inspirational content with a further three series. The Game Changers is rated 5 stars across all podcast platforms, and, with over 150,000 downloads, is ranked in the top 5% of all podcasts globally.

Sue Anstiss MBE, who hosts The Game Changers, and is also co-founder of the Women’s Sport Collective, says: “Sharing the life stories and experiences of the game changers can be hugely impactful whether that’s the journeys of Olympians, Paralympians and World Champions or the career paths of women working throughout sport including coaches and officials, broadcasters and CEOs.

“We’re so grateful to Sport England for their ongoing support of our work. The next series will be our 12th, and once again we have some incredible guests lined up, along with some new formats, including episodes recorded in front of live audiences and panel discussions.

“We’ve built up such a comprehensive catalogue of content. I love it when people first discover The Game Changers, and then realise there are already over 90 episodes available for them to listen to.”

Guests in those previous episodes include the likes of Clare Balding, Katherine Grainger, Lucy Bronze, Tanni Grey-Thompson, Denise Lewis, Emma Hayes, Kate Richardson-Walsh, Sarah Storey, Judy Murray, Gabby Logan, Jill Scott and Jessica Ennis-Hill. Along with openly sharing their historic careers, what drives them and how they’ve dealt with tough challenges, guests also explore key issues for equality in sport and beyond. Male allies featured in previous series have included Ian Wright and Ugo Monye.

Commenting on the new agreement, Garnet Mackinder, Head of Equality at Sport England says: “Supporting the development of future female leaders is a key focus of Uniting the Movement - something we believe can be a catalyst for change across the entire industry. The Game Changers shines a light on women working right across sport. It’s hard not to be inspired by their incredible stories and the fascinating discussions featured.”

The next series starts on Tuesday October 17, 2022.
